Here is a little food for thought today...

Don't fall into the trap of 100 calorie snack packs!!!  These aren't diet foods.  Sure marketers want you to think that they are diet food, but they are just 100 calorie packs of the same old Cheez-its, Oreos, Chips Ahoy, crackers, etc...

Picture this - a bunch of marketing geniuses for our favorite cookie companies got together and asked, "How do we get a market share of this whole eating healthy trend?"  Their solution...repackage the same fat, sugar, and partially hydrogenated oils into "heart healthy, 100 calorie packs!"  Heart healthy?  Diet food?  I don't think so.

Can you get away with eating these every once in a while as your guilty food or reward for being so good throughout the rest of the week?  Absolutely.  Just avoid falling into the thought process of "just because it's a 100 calories, it's okay."  You wouldn't eat 100 calories of pure sugar, would you?

Trying to lose weight or eat healthy?  Try these 100 calorie snacks instead:
  • Fruit (mother nature has already prepackaged these for us - a banana, apple, orange, pear)
  • Yogurt (lower sugar of course, but this is a great balanced food)
  • Smart Pop popcorn - (they have a 100 calorie pack as well: much better than cookies)
  • A slice of deli-meat around a part-skim string cheese
  • Jell-o sugar-free pudding or gelatin
  • Rye crackers with cheese (Wasa crackers with Laughing Cow cheese)
The choice is yours,

Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day.  Why?  Because it gets your motor (metabolism) running early in the day.  If you are skipping breakfast, you are slowing your metabolism down which in turn will make it harder for your body to break down all your calories a lunch.

Every notice that if you skip breakfast, you can make it all the way to lunch before you are hungry?  Good....right???  Wrong!  Feeling hunger is a good thing.  It means your metabolism in moving.  And if you think skipping a meal such as breakfast will only get you to your weight loss goals faster, think again.  That skipped meal only extinguishes your fire inside and will have your body go into conservation mode also know as STORAGE MODE.

Breakfast doesn't have to be a sit down meal each day.  Don't have time?  Try these ideas:
  • Low-sugar yogurt with fruit and granola (Danon Light and Fit)
  • Low-sugar breakfast bar (Southbeach, Atkins, Zone Perfect)
  • Whole-grain toast with peanut butter (untainted of course!) with a glass of skim milk
  • Even just a piece of fruit in the car is better than nothing!

The decision is yours!
