Here is a little Food for Thought....

People with gambling addictions shouldn't live in Las Vegas, those that like to spend too much money probably don't need another credit card, and people who are always late shouldn't do without a watch.  Why???  Because all of them would be setting themselves up for failure.

In case you might have let it slip your mind, YOU ARE HUMAN!  Why the reminder?  Because so many of us think that when we go on a diet or start a lifestyle change that we are going to tap into some super-human powers that give us some indestructible will....that we will be able to deny any donut, pass up any pizza, and simply dismiss the Hershey's Kiss.

When it comes eating right and losing weight, you can't just depend on your will power alone.  It can only take you so far.  Instead, you need to combine your will power with the power you have to control your environment.

If you love ice cream, get it out of the house.  Go out for ice cream when you really must have it.  If you are a candy freak, get it off of your desk.  Go by one piece, package, or bar at the corner store if you absolutely have to have it.  If you've gotta have pizza, don't order a medium.  Go get a slice at a single slice pizza place.

Try these 3 tips for creating an environment that is conducive to your goals:

  1. Get the junk food out of the house.  If someone else in your house eats it, create a separate shelf just for that person.  That's their shelf, their cookies, their sugar, their calories, and their body fat.  Hands off!
  2. Replace the candy dish with a fruit bowl.  Watch as your 3:00 crashes magically start to disappear along with your hips or love-handles.
  3. Treat yourself away from your environment.  Make a point to allow yourself to have a single-serving of that "junk food" outside of your own environment.  You need to keep your sanity!

It's your environment.  Control it.

Here is a little Food for Thought...

Even the "healthiest food known to mankind" can make you gain BODY FAT.  Contrary to what many fad diets would have you believe, calories DO count!  And if you want to lose weight, you DO have to pay attention to them.

Think about this...you can eat 2,000 calories of the "healthiest food known to mankind".  If you only burn 1,500 calories that day, then you just stored 500 calories of the "healthiest food known to mankind" as BODY FAT.  So while what types of foods you eat are important, so is the amount.

In order to lose body fat, you have to be at a negative energy balance which just means you are burning more calories than you are taking in.  It's pretty hard to do if you aren't paying attention to your calories.  You wouldn't try to balance your checkbook without looking at the numbers would you?  Of course not; it would be close to impossible.

So what if you are the type of person that says, "Hey...you aren't going to catch me calculating my calories!  I don't have time for it!"  Well I thought you might say something like that.  Instead of carrying around a pad, pencil, and calculator, try just reducing your portions by 1/3.  Remember the amount of calories you take in is direct proportion to the amount of food you eat.  Yes...it's a little bit of trial and error, but at least you are paying attention to the calories as well.

If you don't try something different, expect nothing different.

Here is a little food for thought...

You know it's funny, but most fast food isn't really that fast at all.  I mean...what are we talking about when we say it's "fast" anyway?  It's convenient?  We save time by getting it?  We can eat it fast and on the go?  What?

Let's see if we can figure this out together...
Well typically fast food is loaded with calories which causes us to gain weight, feel sluggish, and move slower...Nope, that's not it.

Let's see...how about the fact that the cholesterol levels are usually through the roof causing plaque in our arteries and slowing the flow of blood to our heart and other major organs...hmmm...that doesn't seem fast either.

What about the convenience factor...I mean at least we are saving time, right?  Oh yeah, it takes about 7 hours to burn a pound of body fat....that's hardly fast.

Oh...I've got it!  You see most of the time the food is extremely processed which causes your blood sugar to rise really, really FAST!  There it is...that's why they call it fast food.  Of course a high impact on the blood sugar usually makes you store body fat, but at least we've got this whole "fast" thing figured out!

Let's start to link some of these Food for Thoughts together...Look up if you must eat out, it only takes 12-seconds.  Eat the bad stuff only if you are at a 9 or 10 on your scale of 1-10.  And realize that there really isn't anything fast about it at all.

Finally, don't mistake FAST for CONVENIENT.  They are not synonymous.  When something is CONVENIENT, it is favorable to your needs.

Application is power,
