Here is a little Food for Thought,

So you want to reduce those troubled areas?  The hips, the thighs, the butt - you are ready target those spots on your body and start reducing.  Then it only makes sense to really go after all the exercises that work these areas and go to town, doesn't it?  Well....

The truth of the matter is that there is no such thing as spot reduction.  That means that you can't target reduce the extra body fat around your buttocks by doing the butt blaster over and over again; you can't slender your hips by simply using the hip machines at your gym; and you can't lean out your legs through lunges alone.

The SCARY truth of the matter is that many times we actually make these areas of our bodies bigger by overdoing it.  You see when you exercise a muscle, it does nothing for the body fat around that muscle.  Instead it stimulates the muscle alone.  Depending on the weight you lift and the work volume, you are either building that muscle or maintaining it's current level.  The more the work volume the more likely you are to build the muscle.  Those new muscles just push the body fat all that much more.

Body fat reduction (on any area of your body) only takes place one way and one way only - you need to be at a safe, caloric deficit.  Simply put...burn more calories than you are taking in.  And guess what?  Your body gets to decide where it pulls the body fat from.  If it doesn't get to your troubled area right away, keep going!  Eventually it will.

To lose body fat in your butt, hips, and thighs, try these two exercises:
  1. Pay attention to your food (healthier choices, portion control, calories).
  2. Hit the cardio (this is where are excess calorie burning comes in)
Reduce away!

Here is a little food for thought,

When it comes to staying on track with eating right and exercising, we really need to try to avoid using "every-day" excuses.  What's an every-day excuse?  It's something that comes up....well.... just about every day:

"I just have so much going on at work right now."
"I'm just under a lot of stress."
"I never seem to have enough time."
"My kids' schedules have me so busy that I don't have time for myself."
"We catered in, and I didn't have a choice."
"I travel with my job, and it's just too hard to eat right on the road."
"There weren't enough choices."

I have no doubt in my mind that a lot of these statements are true.  We do get busy, it's hard to find time, and sometimes we are limited in our choices.

I have never met anybody that told me, "I just absolutely have no stress in my life at all.  Funny thing, I also have all the time in the world!"  Nope.  No way.  Never has happened.  Have you?  Most likely not.

My point is this - our lives are not going to go away.  They are important to us.  Our kids are important to us.  Our jobs are important to us.  Even our hobbies are important to us.  Because they are important to us, they will always be there keeping us busy and adding that level of stress.

Therefore, we can either let them keep coming up as excuses for our not taking control of our level of health and fitness.  Or, we can recognize them for what they are, accept that they will always be there, and decide to take action in spite of them.

Think of your most popular every-day excuses and try to keep from using them this week.

Spite your excuses!
