Here is a little Food for Thought...

Did you know that if you feed the wrong stomach, you can actually gain weight!  Yep.  But if
you feed the right stomach, you may actually lose weight!

What's that?  You didn't realize you had two stomachs?  Let me explain.

You see hunger seems to stem from two different processes in your body - you either THINK
you are hungry or you actually do FEEL hungry.

If you THINK you are hungry, you are most likely just craving things like pizza, chips,
cookies, and chocolate.  Because you want to eat it, you mistake that craving for hunger.
When you do this, you are feeding your brain's stomach.  Wrong stomach!

When you actually FEEL hungry, you can pretty much pinpoint the feeling.  Where is it?
Ummm....let's see....oh that's right.....in your ACTUAL stomach!  FEELING hungry is
perfectly natural.  In fact, it means that your metabolism is burning and requiring more fuel.
Go ahead and feed it...it's the right stomach!

Try to get into the habit of asking yourself this question before you eat:

Where is my hunger coming from - my brain or my stomach?

Then make a decision based on your answer.  Of course what you eat is important as well.
But I'd be willing to bet that if you gave this a try for one week, you just might make some
different choices.  And those different choices could lead to some different results!

Could you stomach that?

Here is a little Food for Thought...

Why is it that we are programmed to think that eating healthier means that we will have to
spend more money?  Granted I did have to spend $1.00 the other day at breakfast to swap
out my red potatoes for fresh berries, but am I really losing money if I choose to eat
healthier?  I don't think so.

It didn't cost a cent to change the eggs to egg whites, order it without cheese, or ask that
the white bread be replaced with whole grain.  I actually saved money by passing up on the
cinnamon roll!

Let's take a look at some of the math:

At a fast food restaurant, I could get a quarter-pounder with cheese, large fries, and a large
soft drink for about $5.95.  But wait....that's not all!  If you order now we will throw in 1,390
calories, 199 grams of carbohydrates, and 56 grams of fat....WAIT...THERE'S MORE....not
only will you get all of this for $5.95, we will throw in some high cholesterol, 3:00 crashes,
and extra body fat for absolutely nothing!!!  (Total time to drive there, order food, pick up at
window, drive back - 10-15 minutes)

Or

I could make a turkey sandwich with whole-grain bread, 3 ounces of turkey, a slice of mozz,
lettuce, tomato, and some reduced-fat mayo and have it with half a sliced apple and a
reduced-sugar yogurt.  What's this cost?  I totaled it up to about $3.25.  How long did it take
to make it?  About 5 minutes.  What's the nutritional content?  Only 411 calories, 11 grams
of fat, 51 grams of carbohydrates (8 grams of which are fiber), and 31 grams of protein.

Still not convinced?  Here is a list of other ways to eat healthier without it ever costing you
a cent:
  • Ask for dressings and sauces on the side.  $0.00
  • Ask that the vegetables be steamed and not in butter.  $0.00
  • SKIP THE FREE BREAD AND CHIPS!!!  $0.00
  • Substitute starchy foods for fresh vegetables.  $0.00
  • Order diet soda or tea in place of juices or regular soda.  $0.00
  • Take half of your meal home for later.  $0.00

The ONLY reason I can come up with that eating healthier will cost you more money is that
you will live a lot longer!

Start saving,

Here is a little food for thought...

Are you in the shape you want to be in right now?  If so, fantastic.  Keep going with it.  If not,
you should really try using your imagination.

I want you to imagine yourself in the exact type of physical shape that you would want to be
in.  Seriously....think about it!  What would you look like?  How would your waistline look?
Would you look cut, tone, built?  Would you look lean?  How would you be walking, talking,
presenting yourself?  Would you have a swagger about you?  Confidence?

I want you to get a really good idea of what that incredibly fit you would look like and then I
want you to ask yourself at every meal....."What would the incredibly fit me have to
eat?"

Try it, and I bet you will see that the incredibly fit you makes very wise decisions when it
comes to food choices, portion control, and snacking.  It only makes sense that if that is the
person that you want to be, look like, feel like, then you should make the types of decisions
that he or she would make.

I would even be willing to bet that if you acted like the incredibly fit you, you would soon be
that person.

Imagine that.
